A LOCAL HUBBLE BUBBLE FROM SNe Ia?


We analyze the monopole in the peculiar velocities of 44 Type Ia supernovae(SNe Ia) to test for a local void. The sample extends from 20 to 300 h−1Mpc,with distances, deduced from light-curve shapes, accurate to ∼ 6%. Assumingm = 1 and = 0, the most significant deviation we find from the Hubblelaw is an outwards flow of (6.6 ± 2.2)% inside a sphere of radius 70 h−1Mpc aswould be produced by a void of ∼ 20% underdensity surrounded by a denseshell. This shell roughly coincides with the local Great Walls. Monte Carloanalyses, using Gaussian errors or bootstrap resampling, show the probabilityfor chance occurrence of this result out of a pure Hubble flow to be ∼ 2%.The monopole could be contaminated by high

The Hubble law is a direct consequence of the cosmologicalprinciple. Modern Hubble diagrams from supernovae Ia (SNeIa) confirm the Hubble law and provide evidence for an acceleratedexpansion of the Universe (Riess et al. 1998; Perlmutteret al. 1999). In these studies the isotropy of the Hubble diagramis assumed. The purpose of this work is to provide quantitativetests of the isotropy of SNe Ia Hubble diagrams, beyond theidentification of the cosmic microwave dipole in the local SNeIa data (Riess et al. 1995).

 We quantify the effect of supernova Type Ia peculiar velocities on the derivation of cosmological parameters. The published distant and local Ia SNe used for the Supernova Legacy Survey first-year cosmology report form the sample for this study. While previous work has assumed that the local SNe are at rest in the CMB frame (the No Flow assumption), we test this assumption by applying peculiar velocity corrections to the local SNe using three different flow models. Constraints on anisotropic cosmic expansion from supernovae


We test the isotropy of the expansion of the Universe by estimating the hemispherical anisotropy of supernova type Ia (SN Ia) Hubble diagrams at low redshifts (z < 0.2) We compare the best fit Hubble diagrams in pairs of hemispheres and search for the maximal asymmetric orientation. For an isotropic Universe, we expect only a small asymmetry due to noise and the presence of nearby structures.
